1.8 Staff policy for travel to and from work

Nightbus

Staff at LUU can use the Nightbus during term-time evenings by showing their LUU staff card. This can be booked up to an hour before the bus leaves. A full timetable is available on the LUU website at the link below, and the bus runs between 6pm until approximately an hour after the building closes. The bus covers an area approximately up to the ring-road around Leeds, if you should need to travel beyond this point then you must make arrangements yourself for forward travel. Further information can be found at the link below:

https://www.luu.org.uk/legal/getting-home/

Staff finishing shifts in the evenings or early hours, such as bar staff and security personnel, are encouraged to use the Nightbus to return home safely, unless they have made other suitable arrangements.

LUU is particularly committed to ensuring students working during late nights/ early mornings are able to return home safely after their shift. Anyone who feels they are unable to travel securely should speak with their line manager.

Taxis for travel from work

You may claim for a taxi fare only in exceptional circumstances when travelling from your normal place of work to your home address. This will apply only:

· when it is not possible to travel safely by public transport

· where personal security and safety of employees is an issue, (e.g. travelling home late at night or early in the morning out of term when the Nightbus is not running).

If the above requirements have been met then you will need the prior approval of a manager and a taxi can only be booked for legitimate business reasons e.g. from work to your home address.

When travelling by taxi please ensure you obtain an expenses form from your manager which can be used for travel with Amber cars (who are the preferred transport provider for the Union).

Please note that claims for personal travel by taxi will not be considered. Taxi fares will not be reimbursed following any staff social events held by LUU or its employees.

If LUU considers that any expenditure claimed for taxi fares was not legitimately incurred, further details may be requested from you. Where payment has been made to you prior to the discovery that the claim was not legitimate or correct, the value of the claim may be deducted from your salary. If claims are found to be fraudulent disciplinary action may follow.
