Policy 4.1 Probation
4.1 Probation*
This begins with ensuring you are supported through feedback, training and encouragement throughout your probation period. Probation periods at LUU are two months or six months dependent on role and individuals are informed of this before commencing their role. During probation you are expected to acquire knowledge and develop skills to allow you to carry out your role. During this time your line manager will give you positive feedback on what you are doing well and they will also be honest about what areas we think you can do better in and they’ll provide lots of support and guidance on how you can do this.
You’ll have two or three induction review meetings during your probation period dependent on your role and by your last review by you should be really clear about your objectives. Your manager will confirm the number of reviews and the timings of these with you. For most weekly paid staff these will take place at the end of week 4 and 8 and for monthly paid staff these will take place at the end of month 1,3 and 6.
If your line manager has any concerns about how you are getting on during your probation, they’ll talk to you about this. If you don’t meet our performance expectations your probation will come to an end.
If we think you just need some further training or guidance to get you to the level of performance required, we may extend your probation for a maximum of three months at the end of your probation period. If you’ve still not been able to meet the levels of performance needed to meet our students’ needs, your probation will be ended.
When we are looking at performance we will be looking at your motivation, your skills, behaviours and ability to meet objectives.
