Policy 4.3 Performance Support

4.3 Performance Support*

Informal Conversations

If your performance is not meeting the standards expected by LUU, your line manager will hold informal conversations with you outlining any areas of improvement needed and will use One to Ones as an opportunity to raise any concerns. Support will be offered to you as part of these conversations and improvement expectations will be made clear to you.

Performance Support Meetings

If performance standards are still not being met after informal conversations, you will be invited to a formal Stage 1 Performance Support Meeting with your line manager. You’ll be given five day’s written notice of this meeting and informed of your right to be accompanied at this meeting by a workplace colleague or trade union representative. An outcome of this meeting may be that you receive a First Performance Support Warning and this would be accompanied with a Performance Support Form which will document the improvements to be made with expected timescales. A Stage 1 Performance Support period will typically last between four to eight weeks depending on your role. If your performance has met the levels required at the end of this period you would return back to the One to One route.

If your performance has still not reached the desired levels following the agreed timeframe for the Stage One Performance Support period, you will be invited to a Stage Two Performance Support meeting. This is a formal meeting which takes place and following a Stage Two Performance Meeting you may be issued with a Second Performance Warning and this would be accompanied with a Stage Two Performance Form which documents improvements to be made with expected timescales. This would involve you and your line manager clearly identifying areas of improvement and support that can be offered to help you reach the desired performance levels. You will be given five day’s written notice of this meeting and the right to be accompanied by a workplace colleague or trade union representative. A Stage Two Performance Support period will typically last between four to eight weeks depending on your role. If your performance has met the levels required at the end of this period you would return back to the One to One route.

If your performance has still not reached the desired standards following the agreed timeframe for the Stage Two Performance Support period, you will be invited to a Stage Three Performance Support meeting. This is again a formal meeting which takes place and following a Stage Three Performance Meeting you may be issued with a Third Performance Warning and this would be accompanied with a Stage Three Performance Form which documents improvements to be made with expected timescales. If the desired standards of performance are not met following a Stage Three Performance Support period, you may be dismissed on the grounds of capability. You will be given five days written notice of a Capability Dismissal Meeting where the continuation of employment will be discussed and you will be informed of your right to be accompanied by a workplace colleague or trade union representative at this meeting.
