Policy 2.4.4 Industrial Placement or Studying/ Working Abroad

2.4.4 Completing an Industrial placement or Studying/ Working Abroad

We understand that some staff may wish to take some time out of LUU to work in industry or to study/work abroad but do not qualify for the above scheme. We recognise that these activities can have great benefits in terms of broadening knowledge and experience and can have a positive effect on employee performance.

If you decide to leave your position to complete and industrial placement or take a year out to study abroad you will need to resign from your current position. If you are considering returning to your previous position at LUU after some time away, you are asked to advise your Manager as soon as is practically possible. You can take between six and twelve months leave. Whilst we are unable to maintain your employment contract during this period, we aim to give priority to any returning members of staff in our recruitment. If returning to your previous role, individuals will not be required to undergo a recruitment process. You should make your request to return in writing to the Department Manager by the 31st March prior to the next academic year beginning.

Please be aware that this policy operates entirely at the Department Managers‟ discretion. Returning to LUU will be dependent upon your previous satisfactory performance and suitable available vacancies within the department at that time. You may be required to provide references to cover your break from employment at LUU.
